We are so grateful you are considering joining us in Kyoto for our wedding! Here’s everything you need to plan your trip - from flights and transport to local tips - to help make your experience as smooth and enjoyable as possible.
Flights to Japan:
✈️ Tip: Kyoto is especially popular during cherry blossom season. We highly recommend booking flights as early as possible to secure the best fares and connections.
Kyoto does not have an airport of it’s own, the best nearby options are:
Kansai International Airport (KIX), Osaka
-75 min train ride to Kyoto Station
Osaka International Airport (ITM), Osaka
-50 minutes by car to Kyoto
Tokyo Narita Airport (NRT) or Haneda Airport (HND)
-2.5-3 hours on Shinkansen bullet train to Kyoto
We recommend flying into Kansai (KIX) for easiest access. If you prefer visitng Tokyo first, it’s very easy to take the Shinkansen (bullet train) to Kyoto!
Getting to Kyoto:
✈️ Tip: Note: Renting a car is generally unnecessary in Kyoto as the city is very walkable and public transport is excellent.
From Kansai Airport (KIX):
-Take the Haruka Limited Express train (75 min to Kyoto Station)
-Airport Limousine Bus (1 hr 30 min to Kyoto)
From Tokyo:
-Shinkansen "Nozomi" bullet train (2 hr 15 min) from Tokyo to Kyoto
-We recommend booking seats in advance on JR Central website
Japan Rail Pass:
-If you plan to travel around Japan before/after the wedding, you may consider buying a JR Pass (must purchase before arriving in Japan!)
By Taxi:
From Kansai Airport (KIX) to Kyoto:
-Taxi or Private Car Transfer: approx. 1 hr 30 min – 2 hrs
-Cost: approx. ¥25,000–35,000 (USD 160–220), depending on service and traffic
From Itami Airport (ITM) to Kyoto:
